Careful word choice alone can make you sound more professional. Here is the list of 5 banned words at my studio, because I have found that these words are an instant turnoff to clients seeking an upscale experience:

  • Shoot: I do not shoot people, I photograph them.

  • Viewing session: This sounds like someone passed away.

  • Sell: Clients invest, I do not sell to them.

  • Picture or Photo: I create portraits, I do not take pictures or photos.

  • Pixels: I never talk about what size a file is.
